It has been a while. I can only hope this picture acts as a small apology and gift to everyone for putting up with my lack of updates.
First I had the busiest work week ever imaginable, and due to a sorted turn of events, I worked it alone. That had me pretty burnt out. Then I had family in town for a week. It was great to have my husbands parents here, and we had a blast! However it left NO time to work on the comic ( they were sleeping in my work room.) Then ANOTHER terrible week at work and several New Years parties rounded out the most hectic year end in my memory.
After the dust cleared I felt terrible having missed several weeks of updates. So I decided to do something special of epic proportions. The above picture was started over a year ago when listening to some epic rock music and watching Justin play a game that uses music to rev up the difficulty. http://store.steampowered.com/app/49600. The game, called “Beat Hazard”, is A LOT like asteroids but much more colorful and has your music pumping through it. It is a fun game, and it gave me the idea for this. I was listening to ‘Knights of Cydonia’ by Muse. I dusted this off last week and said to myself “I will make this worthy of my friends and readers!” I can only hope I succeeded. It took around 20 hours all together to complete. Most of which was spent learning and making the background. Yes… the space in the background was 100% from scratch by me, no photo stock. Justin helped with a a lot of the color choices because, in the end, my creativity isn’t that vast. I spent a fair amount of the time turning to him and saying “What color should her hair be?” He also was a major help with prospective, which is my WEAKEST spot when it comes to art. I utterly stink at making my art have depth, so he was there to point out what needed tweaking.
Thanks Love!
I will have this in the extras section later today as several sizes of wallpaper for your desktops! Thank you all for being so understanding through everything. Feel free to use this on your computer for free with my blessing! I do, however, ask if you show it to anyone on or offline that I am given credit. I did put some work into this.
Above everything else that confuses me at S.I.N. league, the fact that some people get some worked up about winning baffles me. Yes, I’m a little bummed when my ability to bowl is less that stellar and we lose. But I never started bowling with my friends to winning fame and riches. I’m there to spend time with some of my favorite people, and maybe win a bar tab or two along the way. People just need to remember what kinda of league it is, and just have some fun.
Our teams will never be confused for being the best team on the league. But, we have the most fun
Play on and “Stay thirsty my friends!”
disclaimer: we have never and have no plans to piss on anyone’s car. But I’ve heard of such shananagins happening on our league, and it cracks me up!
So the Holidays are upon us, so I plan on doing an art page for Christmas, I hope this will not interfere with the regular updates. But I will also warn that the holidays are especially crazy at my work (a swanky hotel). Then you add normal holiday business that we all enjoy ( family, parties and shopping) I’m hoping to juggle it all, but I beg forgiveness ahead of time for anything I might miss.
So, true story, one night we were at the bowling ally and my good friend tapped my shoulder and gestured behind me. I turned to see the most outrageous hipster ever. I can only wish I had taken a picture of him, because I know I haven’t even touched on how he really looked. The rest of the night was filled with us making little quips like the one in the comic.
Look! I actually made the second update, on time no less! Thank you, everyone for your encouragement. I helps keep me going.
I was wondering, would anyone be interested in a gallery on this site for random things I have and will draw? Not all necessarily related to bowling, and not all necessarily decent *cough* Just let me know your thoughts!
Well I cannot thank you all enough for the kind words and endless amounts of patience. It is true that life has been busy, but this has been one of those things that, when you let it slide a little, it slides a LOT. Starting this comic back up has been very difficult, but I’m glad I’m getting back to it. Every time I would see one of my old comics sitting around I’d internally flinch, remembering that I had dropped my artistic responsibility in the mud.
But all that aside, I’m back! The comic will update on Monday as before, but with a 12:oopm deadline as opposed to the old midnight Sunday deadline. Since I ALWAYS work Sundays, this should help me from missing updates. More importantly this should help keep the quality of the art up as well. Nothing irked me more than scrambling through the minor details to get it done at 11:30 at night, and making a sloppy comic post.
Now, for the changes. There will be a few big changes to B.O.W.L. going forward. First and most noticeable, It will primarily be a Three-Panel strip. I’m sorry, but the full pages just take so long that I sometimes hate them when I’m done. There will be occasion full pages or art pages, but mostly three-panel strips.
Second, the comic is going to be a little more broad in topic. It will still be 90% S.I.N League related, so no worries folks! But the occasional odd bit of humor or art will likely make its way in. This is due to the fact that artists sometimes need to do something fun that has little to do with what do usually do. I promise to keep it awesome no matter what it is.
Third, and this one is still tentative at this point. Justin isn’t story-boarding at this time. He has a LOT going on, and some exciting new hobbies that I want him to thoroughly enjoy. But that leaves little time for stressing over the comic. So for at least the short-term I will be writing, illustrating and ( god help me) moderating the site. On that last note, bare with me, I have NO idea how comic press works, so Justin will be teaching me as I go. there may be functional hiccups along the way. Please let me know if anything isn’t working properly!
Wow, that’s a mouthful! I hope this is all agreeable with everyone, let me know your thoughts about anything going forward, or any ideas that you think might make this site better. I cannot promise to never miss an update, but I will try my best to at least post something every week, even if it’s a little bit late now and again.
Thank you, everyone for your support. And thank you Justin, for all of your encouragement!
This is a little quick comic to get us started back up, I know it isn’t Monday, but you have all been super patient, I though you deserved a little something. Nothing super exciting, just my comic persona tell me to get the lead out.
Thank you all for the kind comments and emails I’ve received over the past few weeks. There’s been some great encouragement, as well as some very understanding webcomic fans. For everyone who is a fan of the comic, and everyone who has checked on the site in the last few weeks, I apologize, for the nature of my previous post.
The fact is that we’ve had a lot of fun publishing this webcomic, but it hasn’t been cheap to do so. On top of hosting fees, and our attempts at advertising, it has been a huge drain on our already limited free time. Recently we’ve been busier than ever, and keeping up with our relationship, our friends, our jobs, and our other hobbies was simply overwhelming when we added in the workload of this webcomic. For everyone that has a full-time job and full-time life and still manages to keep up with a webcomic: I salute you.
It hurts us to say that we’re not going to keep this going. Lindsey and I are both people that hate giving up, and really hate letting people down, so this wasn’t an easy decision for us. The fact is that we’re still not sure if this is really the end. Lindsey has suggested changing the format to a more manageable three-panel strip, or possibly having a looser update schedule, but honestly how things have been the last two or three weeks we couldn’t have updated even if the strips were smaller.
Until further notice, the comic is on an indefinite hiatus. Right now I can’t say whether or not there will be another update, but again: thank you for your support.
